    Xiaomi Explains Built-in Upload Feature

During the public announcement for Xiaomi new smartphone Xiaomi 4, the company addressed and responded to the recent discussions of the Redmi Note's automatic upload function, which connects to a Chinese server.

The company cited its users' agreement policy, stated that no invasion of privacy has ever occurred in their service and said that the alleged user information infringement is false and untrue.

Xiaomi did not, however, dismiss the automatic connection and upload feature and said that Redmi Note does not upload personal information from its users but only calculations of the user's personal preferences so that the company can send appropriate upgrade and app recommendations to their users so as to improve customer service.

The company also said that all phones come with automatic back-up and cloud features disabled, and they will only perform the functions with users' consent. Backed-up information will also not be used by the company or against the user, the company said.

In hopes of further guaranteeing the company's product safety, Xiaomi said that all of their services are in compliance with the privacy laws of the countries in which their products are sold. Complex encryptions and algorithms, the company said, also protect the products themselves.
Really tempting tlaga due to its cheap price with high specs
  • but only calculations of the user's personal preferences

  • It is clear that the source of the whole thing is questionable at best just one guy, a forum member, who merely posted a few screenshots without proper details or independent confirmation and from there on the story was picked up and blown out of proportion. One thing is clear, we shouldnt be as quick to draw conclusions about Xiaomi here.
We also shouldnt be too quick to put our tinfoil hats on. Maybe the Chinese government is doing all it can do get its hands on as much personal data as it can. But so is the US government, using American manufacturers, who would readily submit your personal data to the authorities if a court orders it (or just because the NSA thought that is appropriate). Unfortunately, its just the world we live in.

its hard to ignore the spying issue here.
first, its xiaomi who is denying the spying activity. maybe, maybe not. lest we forget that xiaomi is govt subsidized company.
second, why would the ip addressed to chinese govt ministry of information?
third, maybe its a hoax and only one forumer posted the screenshot but then why no one examined if the screenshot was photoshopped?
whether true of not, i'd still prefer nsa than the chinese if only to choose between the two.

beside, gsmarena did not refute if china is spying. they are just playing it safe by not confirmig the spying issue and the forumer

Mods paki lock nlang thread thanks
  • Lahat naman sila nag spy. Yung china nga maraming apple products yung ibina-ban nila.
  • third, maybe its a hoax and only one forumer posted the screenshot but then why no one examined if the screenshot was photoshopped?

It's better to buy Samsung/LG/Sony. They are not worth our time and resources. Kaya tama rin ang isang group sa FB na i-boycott ang mga chinese products not only because of these inferior products but also becuase of their continued oppression and disrespect to our sovereignty in the West Philippine sea

  • "F-Secure found that the entry-level Xiaomi Redmi 1S sent to the Beijing located server, information such as the name of the carrier, phone number, IMEI number (unique for each phone), phone numbers from the contacts list, and texts.

IIRC, xioami sends data even if the micloud is off. and the place of server where data is sent, china's ministry of information.
  • ^There you go... Hindi talaga puwedeng pagtiwalaan.

would you disclosed your bank transactions sa fb, google or twitter?

sa west they spy to see kung may masama kang intention, i.e., terroristic acts. you can never trust the Chinese. they spy, they hack for their country's gain.
