  • How to root the Mega 6.3 - Disclaimer: Try at your own risk

    1. Charge your phone over 50%. Enable Developer option by going to Settings > More > About device > tap Build number 5 times
    2. Go to Settings > More > Developer options > tick USB Debugging to enable it
    3. Download all required files: Odin <click here for link>, Samsung Drivers <click here for link>, Rootable kernel <click here for link>, Original kernel <click here for link> (search GT-I9205 GLB for Globe, XTC for Sun, SMA for Smart)
    4. Install Samsung drivers and restart your PC. Connect the phone while it's on to have the PC recognise the device.
    5. Set your phone to 'download mode' by turning it off then pressing and holding volume down + Home + Power. Press volume up to continue.
    6. Run the Odin file and select boot.img.tar in PDA.
    7. Connect the phone via USB to the PC. Odin should detect the phone by displaying a message.
    8. Click on Start and wait for the phone to restart. Takes about 20 - 30 seconds. There will be 2 red lines on the start screen.
    9. When the phone restarts, the phone will be in root mode. Remove the USB connection.
    10. Check if you have root with root checker app from the Play Store. Be sure to let all Play Store updates finish first.
    11. Install Busybox updater from play store (optional). Open SuperSU app.
    12. Move the SuperSU to /system/app by clicking an option in SuperSU > Settings.
    13. Restart the device couple of times.
    14. Go to download mode again (turn off phone, press and hold volume down + Home + Power)
    15. Rename the original kernel to 'boot.img.tar' and redo step 6-9 with the renamed kernel.
    16. Reboot. You should still have root with the original kernel installed and no more red lines on start-up.

    Install CWM (optional) - always back up to external SD to save internal memory

    17. Download this file <click here for link>
    18. Go to download mode again (turn off phone, press and hold volume down + Home + Power)
    19. Run the Odin file and select i9200-cwm-recovery.tar in PDA.

    21. Click on Start and wait for the phone to restart.
    22. After restarting, remove the USB connection.

    How can I put lots of apps in the Mega 6.3? - Disclaimer: Try at your own risk

    Use an app called FolderMount <click here for link> (needs root) which will enable you move data folders of apps to the SD card. You will need a high speed card for best results (class 10 is recommended).

    Another thing you can do is uninstall many of Samsung's preloaded bloatware which you probably won't need. These apps can't be removed using the standard way because some of them will ruin the system if removed. To do this you can use an app called Titanium backup <click here for link> (needs root) which can save all system apps and data then restore them when needed. Make sure to set the backup directory to your SD card so it won't use internal storage. You can do this by tapping menu button > preferences > backup folder location > press back button several times then choose Mnt > extSDcard > tap 'use the current folder'. After doing this, make sure you do a full backup before deleting anything. You can do this by tapping on the check icon on the upper right corner and tapping the RUN button next to 'backup all user apps + system data'. The backing up process will take time depending on how many apps you have on your phone.

    After doing the backup, you can now start deleting apps by tapping the 'backup/restore' tab. This will list all the apps in your system with description such as if it has a backup. You can delete an app by tapping on it and choose uninstall. You also can do individual backups this way as well or 'freeze' an app (disable it temporarily). There is also an option to restore the app, just the app data, or both if you want the app back. Here's a list of the apps I uninstalled, you may want to keep some of them if you wish:

    * Trip Advisor
    * Story Album + Story Album widget
    * Help 1.0
    * Google Play Books
    * Google Play Movies
    * Google Play Magazines
    * Google Play Magazines
    * Google+
    * Gmail
    * Flipboard
    * Dropbox + DropboxOOBE
    * Chrome
    * ChatON
    * Calculator
    * BlurbCheckout
    * S Voice
    * S Translator
    * Samsung Link
    * Samsung Apps
    * Watch On

    You can also uninstall fonts, widgets, livewallpapers, and others using Titanium backup but make sure you don't delete anything important to the system like service and provider files. In short, if you don't know anything about it, don't touch it.

    TIP: Titanium backup from one device can be transferred to another including data. This is particularly helpful if you have save games which you want to carry on to another device or settings for an app like login info. To do this, copy appropriate files from the Titanium backup folder (read the file names) and transfer it to the backup folder of another device you wish to use. You can either install the whole app or just the data if you already have the app installed on the other device.

    Great features to try out with the Mega 6.3

    * Adapt Sound - this will tailor the output sound including calls depending on your hearing. A hearing test is needed for this to work and will check if each ear can pick up different pitch appropriately. Don't forget to enable it on the music player once you're done. This is good for those with bad hearing or those with one ear more sensitive than the other.

    * Watch On - this will display programs currently playing in your area with photos and descriptions. It will first ask for your postcode and then the type of receiver you have (Freeview, Freesat, Virgin, Sky, etc.). After this, you can set up the phone to control your TV or other device such as DVD player, cable box, etc. (like a universal remote) using the IR blaster located on the top of the phone.

    * Screen Mirroring - you will need an Allshare cast Hub <click here for link> or a high-end Samsung TV to use this feature. This will enable you to wirelessly play videos, browse the web, or even play games on to your telly. If you can't afford the hub or the high-end telly, you can use an MHL video cable that will do the same but with wires involved. This is great when you want to watch a movie while travelling or use the Mega as a games console.

    * Safety assistance - this will allow you to take photos using both the front and back camera at the same time and automatically send it to emergency numbers which you can set with a pre-written message. In case of an emergency, press and hold both volume up and volume down for 3 seconds. Make sure you have this feature enabled in the settings.

    * S translator - this is very handy when travelling abroad as it will translate and speak out sentences from English to Potugese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (simplified), and Spanish. This will also work in reverse, just tap the appropriate button and let the foreigner speak and it will translate back to English.

    * USB OTG - if you get a USB OTG cable like this <click here for link> one for 99p, you will be able to use regular USB peripherals to your phone such as mouse, keyboard, USB flash drives, controllers, etc. If paired with an HDTV (via MHL or wireless display hub) as a monitor, you will be able to use your phone as a mini PC which is great for browsing the web and creating office documents using regular mouse and keyboard.

  • Bookmarked! May nakapansin ba sa inyo na kapag naka LTE tong 6.3 tapos naka-tether parang biglang na-cacap yung speed? Yung sa akin kasi smart LTE na pang iphone na sim ang nakalagay tapos kapag magdodownload na ako, magsisimula sa 2.5MB/sec ang download tapos biglang mathrottle down to mga 80kBps/sec nalang after mga 3 minutes. Tapos kapag mag-off on ako ng radio to refresh IP addess sa SMART, ganun nanaman.
  • Bookmarked.

    Mega 6.3 VS Z Ultra

    Ano kaya? Gusto ko ng SW tweaks ng TW but the best specs ni ZU
  • New OTA update. Check your phones. Hope this fixes the throttling of LTE speeds though.
  • @7thpanda
    done also with the update,dont know if capped nga smart lte pero one time naka hotspot ako sa office and 9devices naka connect sa mega,medjo bumagal un internet speed.sa download naman depende ata sa dami ng seeds.
  • @ghostchicken

Pano kaya ma off yun?
  • Meron na ba pang unlock nito? Smart locked unit ko.

  • mabilis ba mag picture ang mega 6.3 sa autofocus lessthan 1 second same sa mga quadcore like s4.
    yung pag pindot mo ng shot ay picture kaagad or need to wait mga 3-4 seconds

  • @ke

    Mabilis yung stock camera app, 1 second to open & almost instant yung saving ng pics sa auto mode. Sa continuous shot mode kaya nya 3 shots per second. Here are some sample pics taken with the Mega 6.3:

  • Nilabas na ba sa phil yung duos na 6.3? If ever, saan po makakabili?
  • IMO, black looks better than the white. I used to buy white gadgets but with this mega 6.3, I chose black. white is so 'china-ish'.
  • I got the white para maiba naman hehehe.... looks good naman
  • I also got black because it looks more professional unlike the white which looks a bit cheap. The screen blends with the frame when it is off and looks more compact. The white color makes it look bigger and highlights the thickness of the frame. Anyway, it depends on your taste and what makes you happy.
  • magkano ang mega, nasa 23k ba ito (iirc)? why did you prefer to buy it over note 2? thanks.

    When I had the original Note and I rarely used the Spen. I don't want to pay extra for a feature I won't use so I got the Mega.
  • @jomorep

    as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder,meron naman nag dedepende sa beliefs or symbolism like white for purity or black for elegance,In my case it doesnt matter what color it is.and besides you have the original or third party covers to dress it up,I think dun nalang magkaka alaman if magimprove un esthetics or magiging supercheap un phablet mo
  • Quiapo andami case nito.
